RAM True Latency (ns) & Timings Calculator

Calculate true first-word memory latency in nanoseconds (ns), cycle times (tCK), and theoretical bandwidth across DDR4 and DDR5 memory kits.

Parameters & Controls

Kit A Configuration3200 MT/s — CL16
Kit B Configuration3600 MT/s — CL18

True Latency: Kit A vs Kit B
10 vs 10ns

Both kits deliver virtually identical first-word latency. Unless memory bandwidth is the priority, the cheaper kit represents better value.

Technical Methodology & Reference Guide

Many PC builders mistakenly assume that higher MT/s (Megatransfers/second) always translates to lower memory latency. In reality, memory access time is governed by clock cycle duration (tCK = 2000 / MT/s). While DDR5-6000 CL30 delivers an exact 10.00 ns first-word latency, a budget DDR5-5600 CL36 kit requires 12.85 ns (+28.5% slower access time).
